Names of Dragons from Game of Thrones & House of the Dragon

Game of Thrones is based on the novel series A Song of Ice and Fire. The show premiered on HBO on April 17, 2011. I have listed the dragons revealed in the series.

Names of Dragons from Game of Thrones

The Game of Thrones dragons are Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion. They were the real stars of the television show. The dragons first appeared during the season 1 finale.

Drogon

Drogon’s the last dragon in existence.

He is one of the three dragons born in the Dothraki Sea. Drogon is the largest of Daenerys Targaryen‘s dragons. He’s the most primal and ferocious of them.

He was stubborn and the hardest to control of his siblings. This dragon is named in memory of Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa).

It is thought that Drogon is a reincarnation of Balerion, the Black Dread.

At the end of the TV show, Drogon is mentioned to be flying towards Volantis. This is what we know according to Samwell Tarly.

Rhaegal

Rhaegal is a green and bronze dragon that was named after Daenerys’ eldest brother, Rhaegar. Jon Snow is his son (and therefore Daenerys’ nephew).

Daenerys said: ”The green one shall be Rhaegal, for my valiant brother who died on the green banks of the Trident.”

He is viewed as the middle brother of Daenerys’s three dragons. However, Rhaegal was more vicious than Viserion.

Rhaegal was killed after a colossal scorpion bolt fatally struck him in the chest.

Viserion

He is named after Daenerys’ deceased brother from season one, Viserys Targaryen.

Daenerys said: ”Viserys was cruel and weak and frightened, yet he was my brother still. His dragon will do what he could not.”

Viserion is creamy white with gold markings. His teeth are shining black daggers.

He is the first of the three dragons to die during a battle beyond the Wall. Eventually, he became an ice dragon.
