Redwyne daughter, red hair, betrothed for years to Willas Tyrell. Desmera was the wife of Prince Tyreece Baratheon.

It has origins in the Macedonian Greek Berenike, ”bringer of victory.”
Gysella
Gysella is a spelling of Gisella and is meaning pledge or hostage.
Minisa
Minisa (”purity”) Tully (née Whent) had three kids with Hoster Tully and died bearing Edmure.
Melara
Melara Hetherspoon asked Maggy the Frog if she would marry Jaime. “Not Jaime, nor any other man,” said Maggy. The Greek meli, honey, is a possible root.
Roelle

Cassana Estermont drowned in Shipbreaker Bay. The name is a variation of Cassandra that means “shining upon man.”
Munda
Munda is a Sanskrit word that means “headman” as well as an ethnic group of the Indian subcontinent.
Lanna
It means “calm as still waters” and is a diminutive of Alanna and Svetlana. In the books, Lanna a girl at the Happy Port in Braavos and works at the brothel called Happy Port.
Ysilla
Ysilla is a form of Isla and Isolde, and means “she who is gazed upon.”
Larra
Larra Rogare of Lys married Viserys II and was considered a great beauty. It is symbolizing “cheerful” or ”protection.”

Tyene Sand is known as one of the “Sand Snakes” and the name has no real etymology.

Arya

Myrcella
Marcella is the feminine form of Marcus ”tied to Mars.” Myrcella was shipped to Dorne at age 9 and is the only daughter of Queen Cersei Lannister and King Robert Baratheon.
Olenna
It is a variation of the Greek Helen and is meaning ”torch.” In Game of Thrones, Lady Olenna Tyrell is played by Dame Diana Rigg.
Lysa
Lysa is a short form of Elisabeth, from Hebrew Elisheva, and means ”my God is an oath”.
Nymeria
Nymeria (“warrior queen”) is one of the direwolfs owned by the children of House Stark.

Dywen is a veteran ranger and a brother of the Night’s Watch. It means “dear one.”

Tristifer (“bearer of sadness”) IV Mudd won almost 100 battles with the Andals.

“Famous people” or “boundary gate.”
Vaemond
Vaemond (“ruler’s guardian”) Velaryon called Rhaenyra’s sons bastards in court. Later, he was decapitated by Prince Daemon.
Ulrick
Ulrick is made of the Germanic elements ”uodal” and ”ric” and is meaning “ruler of the heritage.” Ulrick Dayne was a knight from House Dayn.
Daario
Daario Naharis is a Tyroshi captain of the Stormcrows. It means “possessing goodness” and has Italian origins.
Tormund
It comes from the Norse Þórmundr, “Thor’s protection.” Tormund Thunderfist is a free folk raider from Ruddy Hall.
Torrhen
Torrhen Stark reigned as King in the North and marched south and knelt at the Trident. It is meaning “Thor’s warrior”.
Jacaerys
It is pronounced as juh-KAIR-eez. Prince Jacaerys Velaryon flew Vermax to Winterfell and died during the Battle of the Gullet.
Aemon
In the Great Council of 233, Maester Aemon refused the Iron Throne. He died at 102. It is a variant of the Irish Éamonn (“wealthy protector”) and is also derived from the Greek haima (”blood”).
Baelon
Baelon (”inspired”) the Brave was the father of Viserys and Daemon and the son of Jaehaerys the Conciliator.
Mance
Mance Rayder rangered for the Watch and later built an army of 100,000. The origins are unknown.
Varys
Lord Varys was born in Lys and was sold to a sorcerer in Myr who cut him. This was also invented. He was played by Conleth Hill.
Petyr
Petyr is a spelling variation of Peter that is from Greek petros, stone. Petyr Baelish is the Lord and head of House Baelish.
Roose
Roose is a place name in Lancashire, and has roots in the Old Norse hrósa (means ”to praise” or ”flatter”). A fact I find interesting is that Roose Bolton flatters everyone he plans to kill.
Edmure
Edmure is from the Old English Eadmær, ”prosperity and famous.” Edmure is the brother of Lysa Arryn and Catelyn Stark.
Beric
In the books, Beric (“grain farm”) Dondarrion died six times.
Euron
Invented, no attested source. Euron Greyjoy is one of the most vicious Ironborn warriors.
Loras
Loras has origins in the Old French Lorans, the medieval route to Laurence.
Hodor
Hodor, originally named Wylis, had the door explanation in the show, but this is not in the books.
Rickon
Rickon is an Old English pet form of Richard, “strong in rule.” Rickon Stark is Eddard and Catelyn’s youngest child.
Eddard
A variant of Edward from the Old English ead (means ”wealth”) and weard (”guard”).
Tyrion
It comes from the Norse god Týr. Tyrion was not the one who killed Joffrey.
Jorah
Ezra 2:18 says that there are 112 children of Jorah returning from exile. Jorah Mormont sold men into slavery to keep a wife and the name means “autumn rain.”
Benjen
It is from Benjamin that has roots in the Hebrew Binyamin (“son of the right hand”).
Jaime
Jaime is the Spanish form of James that is from Hebrew Ya’aqov (means “holder of the heel”). In Spain it is pronounced as HY-meh.
Tywin
Tywin is one of the most powerful lords in Westeros. It means “son of the lord”.
Davos
Davos is the one I would actually use out loud. It is a Swiss town where powerful people meet that is proper for a smuggler who served as the Hand of the King.
Tommen
Tommen is from Thomas that has roots in Aramaic te’oma (means ”twin”).
Drogo
Meaning ”to bear,” Drogo was a chieftain of a Dothraki khalasar and married Daenerys Targaryen.
Gendry
Gendry is Robert’s son with a tavern girl and was raised at a forge. It has no traditional meaning.
Oberyn
Oberyn (“royal bear”) Martell fought against Clegane and lost.
